What are Keywords and Keyword Research?
Keywords are the phrases we use to search for things like information, places, services, products, etc. Keyword research is the work done to find out what keywords people use to find what they need on search engines.

How Do Keywords Help You Make Money from Your Website?
When people are interested in buying stuff, they search on search engines. Initially, for information about a type of product they are interested in. Eventually to search for where to buy the product.
When they are researching, your website and pages need to be found on search results. When they land on your website, you have an opportunity to convert these visitors into customers. Also important, your web pages must be found on search results when they are ready to buy.
How do you get on search results, especially on 1st pages? You do keyword research, find keywords that can get your web pages ranked high, even on 1st pages or search results.
This drives traffic to your website. Traffic that you convert into customers. As a result, you get sales. That’s revenue, and you are making money from your website.

Start with a Broad Keyword
On Wealthy Affiliate, you click on the Research option. It will bring you to Jaaxy.
This is the Jaaxy Dashboard. To find keywords for your web pages, you simply use the Keywords tab. Enter a keyword for a web page you are planning to create and publish.
You can start with a broad keyword. For example, it can be for a health product such as Vitamin D.

Here are the search results for the keyword – Vitamin D.
Avg is the average number of searches per month. Vitamin D has nearly 191,368 searches per month.
Traffic is the potential number of visits to your website if you rank high, especially when you rank on the 1st page. Vitamin D has 32,533.
QSR, KQI & SEO to Help You Decide on Which Keywords to Use
After we click on QSR, we see more info which is very helpful. QSR tells us the number of websites competing for this keyword.
In other words, this is your competition. It says there are 151 other websites using this keyword.
Not too bad. Usually, anything 300 and below is ok. But, will need quite a lot of work to get on top of the competition.
The KQI tells us that this keyword is Normal. This is not good. Ideally, Great is better.
Then the SEO column says 71. Also, not too good. I prefer it to be 90 and above.
So, this tells us that the broad keyword – Vitamin D is not too ideal if I plan to use it as a keyword, say like for example for a blog post.
Narrow Down with Long Tail Keyword
Let’s take a look further down the list. I see Benefits of Vitamin D. The AVG and Traffic looks good.

Let’s dig deeper by clicking on that keyword. Now we click on the QSR. I see a few other keywords that I might consider.
So I click the QSR for those. Then I sort to see the 3 keywords. This helps me to compare.
So, if I am planning to write a blog post about the benefits of vitamin D, I have these 3 ideas to consider. You can do more if you find more keywords.
Looking at the 3 keywords, I have a decision to make. I might go for the keyword – Benefits of Vitamin D because of the high average searches and traffic. But the QSR is higher than the other 3. Plus, the SEO is lower than the keyword What Are The Benefits of Vitamin D.
Looking at What Are The Benefits of Vitamin D, I might actually consider using this keyword instead. The SEO is near 90, which I am very happy with. The QSR is the lowest of the 3. Also, the words – Benefits of Vitamin D – are actually within that keyword.

So, there is a chance that eventually the blog post I plan to write will rank for that keyword. More importantly, this is also known as a long tail keyword.
Long tail keywords are easier to rank. Have higher user intent. As the data here shows, too.
Keyword is ideal. So, if I were you, and you are planning to write a blog post about the benefits of Vitamin D, I would choose the keyword – What Are The Benefits of Vitamin D.
