What Are The 17 Off Page SEO Techniques To Avoid Like The Plague?

In the previous article, I shared about 11 Off Page SEO Techniques to improve the search ranking of your website. Even as high as 1st Page. There are also some Off Page SEO techniques that are outdated, and some that you should not do at all. Today, I would like to share with you What Are The 17 Off Page SEO Techniques To Avoid Like The Plague.

This article is part of a series that spun off from the main article – How to Learn Digital Marketing Online – The Ultimate Guide. It is a section dedicated with digital marketing information, to help people who wants to make a career as a digital marketer, or for business owners who needs to know how to market their businesses online. I highly recommend reading the main article, too. It will help you get the overall picture.

What Are The Off Page SEO Techniques That You Must Avoid?

1. Automated link building

There are sites out there that offer to build links for you automatically. All you do is enter your website address, website name, site title, description of website, and a few other details. Hit submit, and their software will blast your details to numerous sites to build links.

SEO Off Page Technique To Avoid - Automated Link Building

Avoid this like the plague! Here’s what Google warns about automated link building.

This old and outdated Off Page SEO technique creates poor quality links that have very little relevance value. Search engines are aware of this black hat SEO tactic, and have laid down very clear guidelines against this practice. Continue to do this at the risk of your website being penalized or banned.

2. Link exchange

Few years ago, a naive young woman asked me if I would like to exchange links for our websites. I promptly informed her that this is now a black hat SEO tactic. It is totally useless and ineffective. Plus, there is the danger of search engines punishing sites that do this.

She didn’t believe me. She continued to say that she just attended a digital marketing seminar, and the trainer taught the entire group of attendees this SEO tactic.

I could not believe what I heard. It was the 2010s, and people are still using this outdated and harmful Off Page SEO technique. Worse, they are teaching others to do it. I don’t know if it is lack of knowledge or they are just giving misinformation.

Link exchange is when one website links to another website, and the other website also links back. It is also called a reciprocal link. In the past, this was a way to manipulate the algorithm and get lots of backlinks.

SEO Off Page Technique To Avoid - Link Exchange

Today, avoid this like the plague! See what Google warns about link exchange.

3. Paid links

On Google’s page that warns users against link schemes, this is at the top of the list of tactics that can impact a site’s ranking in search results negatively. Paid links are as the name said – when you pay to get a link from another website.

Again, this is an outdated tactic that used to be done to manipulate the algorithm and get high search results. Now, search engines’ algorithm have improved, and they can easily find out such paid links.

The search engines are constantly checking for link buyers and link sellers. Any site found to be involved in this will get heavily penalized.

4. Linking on other blogs

This is different from the white hat SEO tactic where you add a comment on others’ blog posts. The difference is that here, the tactic is to comment on other blogs and add a link within the comment itself.

Usually, this is done with poor quality comments. This is because the person doing this does not take the time to read the article. They will just add comments for the sake of a comment. For example, ‘Great post’ or ‘This is a well written article’. And that is all.

And they will just add a link to that comment that makes no sense. Or write an additional few more words that is awkward plus adding the link.

Once again (you guessed it!), this is an old and outdated technique to do Off Page SEO. It is no longer effective. In fact, it is considered as black hat SEO. This means your website will get penalized or banned by search engines when they detect you doing this.

11 Off Page SEO Techniques for 1st Page Rank

Wanna know how to do Blog Commenting right? Read my article about Off Page SEO Techniques that still work, and even get your website or web pages to the 1st Page of search results.

5. Link quantity vs link quality

It’s great to get backlinks to your site right? And even better when you get lots of links? Cos plenty of backlinks means that others find your website good and valuable. And this will result in higher ranking on search results. Wrong!

Sure, it is great to have as many backlinks as possible. That is why, in the past, many marketers engage in link building strategies to build lots of backlinks. But search engines have caught on to this black hat tactic.

Now, the relevance of your backlinks are more important. If most of your backlinks lack relevance, you are doing more harm than good to your website. Focus on natural link building. Build quality and relevance links rather than quantity.

6. Over-optimized anchors

SEO is the way to rank websites or web pages for keywords. The goal is to reach the 1st Page of search results. Over-optimized anchors is when one uses the same keyword over and over again to link back.

Marketers went overboard with this tactic in the past when it worked and they were able to get their websites or web pages on the search results 1st Page. As usual, eventually the search engines caught on. A change in algorithm and today those caught using this method are punished.

So, can you use keywords to link back? After all, you need to use those keywords to get higher ranked. Sure, you can still use the keywords. Just do not overdo it. And do it naturally.

Don't Force Keywords Just To Get Backlinks

For example, when you do guest blogging, do not force the keywords into a sentence for the link. Write naturally. And when you find it is possible to fit the keywords into a sentence naturally, then do the backlink.

And do not forget that there is such a thing as LSI – Latent Semantic Indexing. Using related words and terms to link back to your website helps to improve search engines’ understanding of your website. And as such, to rank your website for related words and terms, too.

7. Keyword stuffing

This is a very very very very very old SEO tactic that no longer works. It is black hat SEO. And will get your website off the search results.

Eons ago, I had a business owner who came to me begging for help. His website was banned from Google’s search results. I did a quick check, and I immediately found the problem. Whoever was doing SEO for his website used keyword stuffing.

Keyword stuffing is a means where a website, an article or blog post is filled with lots of the keyword. Here is an example of keyword stuffing:

We are a digital marketing agency in Singapore that prides itself to be the best digital marketing agency in Singapore. Our team provides SEO, PPC, and SMM services at reasonable prices, which makes us on of the most competitive digital marketing agency in Singapore. So, if you need to promote your business, please consider our digital marketing agency in Singapore.

Never ever do this! Unless you enjoy jeopardizing your website, and ultimately your business.

Write naturally. Find other words to express what you intend to say.

8. Spammy guest blogging

This is when a guest post is irrelevant to the topic, niche or industry of the website where the post is featured. It is also spammy when there is use of over-optimized anchor text – see above point 6. One thing to watch out for, when you write a guest post that has low quality – see below point 9, it will be considered as spammy, too.

Guest blogging can still be a very effective Off Page SEO technique. But you have to make sure that your article is of high quality and relevant to the niche and industry of the website. Also, make sure that your article is unique and helpful. Do not spin an old article from your website as a guest post.

Do Guest Posting the right way. Here is a Free Training Video about the Complete Blueprint on Guest Posting. Watch now and learn how to do Guest Posting without incurring the wrath of Google and other search engines.

To watch this Free Training Video, you only need to give your email address. No credit card required.

9. Low-quality content

You need amazing content for your SEO efforts to be effective. Google has said so. So, avoid producing content just for the sake of publishing something. Stop fulfilling the ‘at least one post every 3 days’ goal just for the sake of being perceived as a website that has regular updates.

I don’t create low quality content. Low quality content has very little value and is not helpful to my readers.

It takes time for me to create high quality and unique content. And I am OK to take the time to do that. The results are worth the effort. Again, write naturally. What do I mean by writing naturally? – See point 10 below.

10. Writing for search engines, not for people

Continuing from the above point, write naturally. This means when you write, you do it with your readers in mind. Write for people. Not for search engines.

Write for People, Not for Search Engines

Articles should be engaging and well written. They should not be awkward. For example, forcing keywords into a sentence. Or writing in a way that does not make sense. Or adding unnecessary text or headings just to squeeze in keywords.

Your sentences should flow from one point to another. Like you are having a conversation with your readers. This also enhances the user experience.

Your readers will enjoy reading the article, and will stay longer on your web page. The longer they stay, the better for SEO ranking factors. And eventually, it leads to higher ranking on search results.

11. Exact-match domain name

Exact-match domain are websites with URLs that contain keywords.

E.g. Years ago, when I was thinking of a domain name for my travel blog. I wanted to share all the best places to visit in Asia. So, I thought of getting bestplacestovisitinasia.com.

I know. A mouthful right?

Back then, exact-match domain names were hot. They were seen to be great for SEO, and could rank far more quickly than a traditional branded domain name.

Fortunately, I knew better. And I chose the domain name – asiatravelgems.com – for the brand, Asia Travel Gems.

Today, exact-match domains does not have the edge over any other domain. They may even have the potential to be flagged for spam, and risk being penalized or suffer low rankings. They are viewed as less trustworthy. When building links, using such domain names can be a problem.

In addition, it is hard to do branding for such names. Can you imagine me branding Best Places to Visit in Asia? Thank goodness I had the foresight to use Asia Travel Gems. Much better for branding, don’t you agree?

12. Classified Ads

This is one of the most outdated and overrated Off Page SEO techniques. It was to find Classified Ads where you could create a free ad. The idea was to list your business for others to find.

It was also counted as a backlink. Back in the early days of SEO, when it was still a new thing. Not today. It does not work anymore.

In addition, these days, very few people actually use classifieds anymore. As such, doing this has very little value.

What Are The Off Page SEO Techniques That Are Outdated

13. Directory Submissions

Directory submissions happen when you submit your website to online directories.

This is an outdated SEO Strategy. But it is not totally harmful. So, that is why this technique and the following ones are in this section. You can consider using this but know that it will have very little effect for a lot of effort.

Firstly, do not pay for a service to automatically submit to directories. Most such services can do harm to your website when they submit to directories that are not relevant to your niche or industry.

Do it yourself. Find relevant directories, and submit your site to them. Yes, you can see it will take you a lot of time and effort to do this. The end result? The backlink may not be of much value, too.

14. Article directories

Article directories started as a way for sites to share quality content with a large audience. It was also a great way for sites to earn links. But these days, the readership at these sites are getting lower and lower.

This is because the article directories have been abused. Articles of low quality flooded them. As a result, today, search engines find them to be no longer of value.

All said, you can still do this tactic. You just have to find article directories that have high authority and of high quality. Also, take note to share your articles only to directories that matches your niche or industry.

Need more info on how to do this technique the right way? See this Free Training from the founder of the best training platform that many digital marketers and I learn from:

Article Submission Training by Carson of Wealthy Affiliate
Click on the above image to access the Free Training. All you have to give is your email address. No credit card required.

15. Social bookmarking

Fewer and fewer marketers use this technique. This is because there is not much value to be earned. Social bookmarking is when you use social bookmarking sites to bookmark your favorite site or content. In the past, this used to create backlink juice. Today, not so much.

Nevertheless, sometimes there may be some value. At the very least, you can drive traffic to your site when people discover your bookmark. Here are some all right social bookmarking sites: StumbleUpon, Scoopit, Pocket, and Digg.

16. Forum marketing

This is when you answer questions on various forums. When you do that, you can mention your brand and create a backlink.

This is very time consuming. You have to find forums related and relevant to your niche and industry. You have to join them, and engage with the people at the forum. You have to build relationships and authority. As I said, very time consuming.

And all for what? For very little SEO juice. Better you spend time on SEO Techniques that are more important and can improve your site’s ranking.

17. Too many social media

The idea here is to be on as many social media channels as possible. After all, social signals are now getting more and more relevant and important, right?

Be on Too Many Social Media

No, this is not good. It is better to find social media networks that work better for your niche or industry. And also, social networks that are relevant.

For example, Asia Travel Gems is a travel blog. Travel is a niche where there can be lots of nice images that people can appreciate. Videos of travel are also crowd pleaser. So, an image based social network like Pinterest will be very suitable. And a video platform like YouTube will be ideal to share travel videos.

So, I focused on these two social platforms, and I am getting increased traffic from them. Every week, I get more and more followers on Asia Travel’s Pinterest account as well as increased viewers and traffic from Pinterest to my website.

So, avoid being on too many social media platforms. Be on a select few. It is a much better strategy. Also it can lead to better and more social signals which helps your SEO efforts.

What Is Off Page SEO?

In simple terms, Off Page SEO is the digital marketing effort where you create presence or mention of your brand, website or web pages on other online sites. This can be on another website, on social media, on online forums, and any other online property that is on the World Wide Web.

Search Spider Bot for SEO

After the search spiders have found your website, they will look at your On Page SEO efforts to understand what your website is all about. They will also see if you have done a good job at On Page SEO. After that, they will index your website.

Next, the search spiders will scour the Internet to see if there are any backlinks or mentions of your brand, website or web pages. Every quality mention or backlink to your website will help increase your website’s and web pages’ search ranking.

When another website links back to your website, it is a like a thumbs up for your website. When search engines find these links, they see it as a sign that your website has been found to be of value to others.

Backlinks

This is called a Backlink. It is one of the SEO ranking factors in a search engine algorithm. The more backlinks your website has, the higher the ranking for your website.

But the backlink must be a quality backlink. That means it must be a link from another site that has relevance to your website’s topic. The other is the authority of the other page or website that is linking back to your page.

Page content length is one of the ways search engines determine if a particular page has authority. It also helps search engines to know if that page contains valuable content to a reader.

What are the 11 Off Page SEO Techniques for 1st Page Rank?

There are many Off Page SEO Techniques that can help rank your website or web pages on the 1st Page of search results. Here are 11 of them that I find is more relevant today. They are:

  1. Guest Posting
  2. Article Submission
  3. Visual Marketing
  4. Broken Link Opportunity
  5. Influencer Marketing Outreach
  6. Question & Answer Sites
  7. Blog Commenting
  8. Content Publishing Platform
  9. Podcasts
  10. Press Releases
  11. Social Signals

Let’s discuss each of these now.

What is Guest Posting?

I remember many years ago when I received my first invitation to write an article for a publisher. Their website was about business, and there is a section of their site dedicated to digital marketing. They asked if I could write an article for them as a guest writer.

Immediately, I grabbed the opportunity. It meant that I could get a quality backlink for my business website from an authority site. Also, I could build a relationship with the host site, their readers as well as build brand awareness.

This is Guest Posting. And it is one of the best Off Page SEO Technique to apply. Just take note to make sure that the website you are writing for is related to your niche and industry. Added to that, when the host site is of good authority, you can build a high quality and natural backlink.

In addition, when you guest post on a reputable site, your reputation is heightened.

There is no need to wait for an invite to write, too. You can use search engines to find sites that are looking for guest bloggers. Just make sure that you find those that are related to your niche and industry. Also, they have some authority. Do it right, and you will increase traffic to your website that can lead to more sales.

Still a little unsure how to do it right? Here is Free Training for you – A Complete Blueprint on Guest Posting:

What is Article Submission?

Another technique that I often use is Article Submission. Just like the above, for Guest Posting, you write an original and quality article. But this time, you submit your article to websites that allow you to submit articles to them. One such site is Sooperarticles.

Again, just make sure that you submit to sites or categories within sites that are related to your niche or industry. Also, read all the guidelines, terms and conditions carefully. You do not want to appear as spam.

What is Visual Marketing?

At the point of writing this article, Google reported that images are returned for 23% of search queries. It is increasing every year. More and more people are searching using a form of visual.

Consumers’ attention span is decreasing every day. So are their ability for retention. Many do not spend more than few minutes reading an article. They prefer visuals.

It can be images, videos, infographics, presentations, and many others. It is no surprise that this is the break out digital marketing trend in 2019.

“The future of search will be about pictures rather than keywords”

– Pinterest CEO, Ben Silvermann

As a digital marketer, it is critical that you create more visual marketing content. Many businesses are preparing and revising their websites for visual search. Being found on image or video searches can drive traffic to your website.

Today, Images Appear At The Top Area of Search Results
Today, Images Appear At The Top Area of Search Results

Today, images appear at the top of search results (as seen in the screen shot above). To get your images and videos ranking high on images or video searches, focus on schema markup and metadata. These will be textual information for search spiders to crawl and index.

Broken Link

Most websites have outbound links to other web pages. At times, for some reason or other, the web page no longer exists. This can result in a broken or dead link, which is not good for the website that is linking to it.

This is an opportunity for you to build a backlink. You can write to the webmaster of the website, and mention that you noticed a broken link on their website. Then offer a link to your web page as a replacement for that broken link.

Again, you must remember that the website you are targeting must be related to your niche and industry. Also, it must be a reputable website with good level of authority.

There are many online tools to find such sites with broken links. One of the online tools is Wikigrabber that helps you find Wikipedia pages that need citations and dead or broken link replacements.

What is Influencer Marketing Outreach?

Influencer Marketing

An online influencer can help you reach out to a large and loyal group of audience. When the influencer shares your content or even mention your brand, it helps with higher ranking for your website. Also, this can send traffic to your website, increase sales and even adds authority to your brand.

The only concern here is to find an authentic influencer who has a huge audience with credibility and loyal fans. Plus, the influencer must be in your niche or market. You can either build a relationship with them, and eventually invite them to mention your brand or blog post. Or you can pay them to endorse your product, service or brand.

Other advantages of influencers, besides SEO and higher ranking, are credibility and sales. With your brand associated with the influencer, you gain more credibility easily. And as such, it is also easier to convince the fans to act on call to actions; such as buy a product or service. The fans may even advocate your brand.

What is a Question & Answer Site?

Have you heard of Quora? It is one of those sites where people can ask questions and get answers from anyone.

For example, I have a travel blog called Asia Travel Gems. I would answer questions about places to see, eat and stay in Asia. Whenever I do that, I leave behind a link to the website as part of my signature, at the end of my comment or answer.

This Off Page SEO technique helps my website to acquire a quality backlink. Also, it increases brand awareness and improves reputation. When readers click on the link at the signature, it drives traffic to my website.

Just like all the above Off Page SEO techniques, make sure that you find Questions & Answer sites that are related to your website and business. When you provide answers, give full and complete information. Also, make it valuable and helpful.

Here is a Free Video Training on How to Get Free Traffic From Quora:

Besides Quora, there are many other Questions & Answer sites. A few more examples are Answers.com, Ask.com, and Yahoo Answers. Find the ones that are related to the topic on your website, find questions where you have the right, quality and helpful answer, then give the information.

What is Blog Commenting?

Another way to gain higher ranking and traffic is to comment on other blog posts or articles. Always read the blog post or article first. Then, after understanding the topic, write a meaningful comment that shares your view on the topic.

Do not write short comments such as ‘Great post!’ or ‘Well done!’. You have an opinion. Share it. This will grab attention from readers.

Many blogs allow you to leave a link to your website. So, when you leave an engaging comment, readers may click on your link and this drives traffic to your website. It doesn’t hurt that the link will also be a backlink.

What is Content Publishing Platform?

These are platforms where people can contribute and consume content. Some examples are SlideShare, Tumblr, Medium and Blogger.

When you share content on these platforms, you should share original and authentic content. Who knows? It may go viral. And this can drive traffic and build a following.

What is a Podcast?

Podcasts are a great way to build brand exposure. It is an audio clip of a recording. The recording is usually just you speaking on a topic or having a conversation with a guest speaker.

You can share the podcasts on platforms like Buzzsprout and Soundcloud. These platforms have millions of active users who engage with them every day. You can find and connect with your target audience here.

Again, this can drive traffic to your website. You may even find yourself becoming an authority and an influencer.

What is a Press Release?

A Press Release is a written communication about an event, a product or any important happening at a business. When the online media picks up on the press release, you will get a very high quality backlink.

At the same time, the media exposure can bring you lots of traffic to your website. There is also the valuable mention of your brand that the search engines like.

Most often, press releases are focused on long term value to the company such as brand awareness, brand exposure, online visibility, and reputation.

What are Social Media Signals?

When people like, share, vote, pin, or heart your posts on social media, also mention your brand too, these activities send social signals to the search engines. So, don’t just create a social media account. Be active on it. Engage with your fans and followers!

In 2014, Forbes said that social media is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. And this has proven to be very true today. Businesses must have a presence on social media, and engage actively with their audience.

Some ways of engaging your customers is to reply to their comments within 24 hours. If possible, even immediately. Get your customer support on the job, and respond to all questions, feedback, complaints or compliments as soon as possible.

Social Signals

As your website’s social signals increase, so will your ranking on search engines. I have personally experienced ranking for one of my websites go up within a day just after being active on Twitter.

Speaking of Twitter, there many social networks for you to consider. There are Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and YouTube. It is all right to have a presence in all of the social networks. But if your team is small or it is only you doing the work, then just pick a few that perform better for you.

I am speaking of traffic. Social media can bring relevant traffic to your website that can be converted to sales. For example, for my travel blog, I have found that Pinterest works very well. It drives a lot of relevant traffic to my website.

Increased traffic does increase search ranking for your website. When there is high traffic to your website, it is telling the search engines that your website is relevant, popular and of interest to people.

What are Outdated Off Page SEO Techniques That No Longer Work in 2019?

Having discussed the above Off Page SEO Techniques, I would like to highlight that there are some techniques that used to work in the past, and in 2019 they seem to have lost their mojo.

These are tactics such as submissions to directory listings, social bookmarking, classified ads, Web 2.0 and more. I will discuss this in a future article. So do join my mailing list to get updates when I publish it.

What are Keywords?

How You Can Make Money from Internet

When people use a search engine to find things, they type a word or phrase into the search field. Then they click search, and the search engine will find websites or web pages related to that search. And the search engine will produce a pages of lists of these websites or web pages.

The word or phrase are called Keywords. The pages of search results showing lists of websites or web pages are called Search Engine Results Pages. They are commonly referred to as SERP.

The Oxford English Dictionary says that currently there are 171,476 English words (as of the date this article was published). Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged, claims there are around 470,000.

Whichever is correct, the fact is there are billions of keywords. This is because of how the words are combined in use, and also the permutations of the combinations. And this is not counting the keywords in other languages. (we will focus on English keywords here)

Keywords enable searchers to find your website or web pages promoting your products, services or brand. As such, you must find the correct and relevant keywords for your website or web pages that people are using. So that they can find your website or web page.

This is done using a Keyword Tool to do Keyword Research.

After you find the best keywords for your website, you use them on your website or web pages. It can be on the site title, page title, headers or even the image alternative text tag. In other words, you do On Page SEO.

On Page SEO techniques will help your website to get ranked high on Search Engine Results Pages. Ranking high increases online visibility, which will enable consumers to be aware of your brand.

Of course, the best situation would be that your website or web page is ranked on the 1st Page of Search Engine Results Pages. It is known that 91.5% of people searching on search engines will click on a link that is on the 1st Page.

When searchers click on your website or web page link that is on the 1st Page of search results, they go to your website. As you can see, this means that keywords can help drive traffic to your website or web page.

When people go to your website or web page, you have the opportunity to convert them to customers. And that would result in increased sales.

Essentials to Perfect Keyword Research

Now that we have established the importance of keywords, let us discuss the Essentials to Perfect Keyword Research.

Your Unique Brand

You started a business. You created a brand. You spent valuable time, effort and money to build and grow your brand. And it is important that people see your brand, recall your brand, and have good association with your brand.

To achieve that, you need to do keyword research and SEO to gain online visibility for your brand. Further down, I discuss the importance of Brand Keywords.

Products or Services You Offer

Besides your Brand Keywords, during the Keyword Research phase, think about what you are offering to the consumers. Is it a product? Is it a service?

How To Start An Online Business - Products

What kind of product are you offering? What kind of service are you offering. Is it something that your target audience needs? I am sure you must have found something that they really need, right?

And if it is, you must deliver it to them. And keywords are a way for your target audience to find your business on search engines.

Keywords That Match Your Products or Services

So now, put yourself in your target audience’s shoes. What words would they type into a search engine to find a product or service like yours?

Think of as many as you can. Write them down. This will be your initial list of keywords.

Next, you have to find out whether the keywords are the best and suitable for your website. What do I mean by this?

Well, you will need to use a Keyword Tool. Enter the keywords into this keyword tool. Find out if the keywords have a good amount of average traffic using this keyword to search.

Then find out how competitive is this keyword. This will help you get a clear picture of whether the keyword can rank high, and even on 1st Page, easily. Also, it helps you with online ad campaigns. Competition affects whether your ad is delivered as well as the advertising costs.

Types of Keywords

There are various types of keywords. Each has its unique use in your digital marketing strategy. You will need to understand each of them to decide how to use them in your marketing efforts.

Brand Keywords

Say, for example, you attend a networking event. You introduce yourself and the business and brand that you either own or represent. Everyone whom you met would know of the brand. And some may like to know more about your business.

Your Unique Brand Keyword

To find out, they would go to a search engine, type your brand name, and do a search. Ideally, your website and anything other online assets (e.g. Facebook Page) should appear on the list of search results. The person can then click on all these to learn more about your brand and business.

As you can see, it is very important that for the above to happen. It improves your brand’s online visibility. Do make sure you use Brand Keywords, and also check once in a while to make sure that your brand website and online assets appear on the 1st Page of SERPs.

Generic Keywords

Generic Keywords are words that have a relatively wide scope. For example, words like Dog, Cat, Business, and Training. Notice that Generic Keywords are usually just one word.

As such, Generic Keywords usually have higher competition. And due to the higher competition, there can be lower conversion rates. Plus, using Generic Keywords for ad campaigns can be very costly.

Long-Tailed Keywords

In contrast, Long-Tailed Keywords are when a searcher types in three or more words into a search query. Sometimes, the words can form a phrase. For example; Organic Dog Food, Best Cat Toys, How to Start An Online Business, or Where Can I Learn Digital Marketing.

As you can see, when someone uses Long-Tailed Keywords, they are looking for exactly what they have intent to learn more in detail. Studies have shown that the intent to buy is higher. In almost every case, when you use a Long-Tailed Keyword for your article, it can result in higher conversion to sales.

Low Hanging Fruit Keywords

Speaking of higher conversion rates, you can raise the chances of getting more sales by using Low Hanging Fruit Keywords. What are these? Think of fruits that are hanging lower on a tree than those higher up. Isn’t it easier to pluck them?

Low Hanging Fruit Keywords

It is the same for Low Hanging Fruit Keywords. These are keywords that have relatively reasonable amount of traffic, low competition, and high chances of getting ranked on the 1st Page of SERPs.

To know what are these keywords, you will need a very good keyword tool that can give you those exact data. I know of such an excellent keyword tool. And it is the same one I use for all my websites and web pages. And it is also why I can get many of my web pages ranked on 1st Page.

I share about this excellent keyword tool further down this article. Keep reading.

Local Keywords

Many people search for local businesses using various apps such as Google, Bing, Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc. It is then very critical for you to optimize your website and web pages with Local Keywords to attract these searchers.

Local Keywords can be a country, city, borough or even a district. For example; Bakery in Singapore is using country as a search term. But this can be a little too broad, and may not help you get ranked high.

Local Keywords to Rank On Search Results
Local Keywords to Rank On Search Results

Try a more local keyword. For example, in Singapore there are many districts and neighborhoods. If the bakery is actually in a district called Ang Mo Kio, then a good Local Keyword to use would be Bakery in Ang Mo Kio.

This is just one of the many permutations that the pet store can consider. The pet store can try other Local Keywords such as Best Bakery in Ang Mo Kio, Healthy Organic Cakes and Cookies in Ang Mo Kio, or even Bakery near Ang Mo Kio Central.

Conversational Search Keywords – Latest Trend!

The advent of voice interfaces and sophisticated AI (Artificial Intelligence) have created a new type of keyword – the Conversational Search Keyword.

Conversational Search Keywords Are Important Today

Today, consumers can speak a natural speaking sentence into a device, and the device can reply with a full sentence. This is now applied for searches too. In the past, searches mostly analyzed individual keywords. Technology today looks at the entire string of words.

For example, in the past, we may use keywords such as Car Dealer Singapore. But today, for reason of Conversational Search, it is better to use Where Can I Find The Best Car Dealer in Singapore?

Comscore reports that voice search is on the rise in 2019, and will make up at least 50% of searches in 2020. Can you afford to ignore Conversational Search Keywords?

Which is the Best Keyword Tool to Use?

Now that you understand more about keywords and the importance of keyword research, the next thing you need is to know which is the best keyword tool to use? Let’s start with a bit more details about what a keyword tool is.

What is a Keyword Tool?

A keyword tool helps you to find out if the keyword you plan to use has good amount of traffic, whether it has high, low or medium competition, and many other data to help you decide if it is suitable for your web page or ad campaign. The tool uses Google tools such as Google Autocomplete and Google Suggest to do the keyword research for you.

The Google Suggest extracts keyword suggestions for you. What this means is that the keyword tool will produce a list of more keywords for you. This list are suggested keywords based on the main keyword you have started with.

For example, if you type Restaurant in Singapore, the keyword tool will show you how many people are using this search term, what is the competition for this keyword, and many other useful data. In addition, it will show you suggestions such as Best Restaurant in Singapore, Chinese Restaurant in Singapore, Good Food in Singapore, etc. These also show the traffic, competition and other data. The data is to help you decide if the original keyword you intended to use is perfect, or maybe one of the other on the list is better.

What are the Keyword Tools Available?

Google Adwords - Keyword Planner

There are many in the market. For example; there is the popular Google Keyword Planner, ahrefs, and SemRush.

To be honest, I have tried many, including the few mentioned above. And I found them lacking. The data provided is either too vague or lack enough information to help me decide if the keyword is the best for my website or web page.

For example, Google Keyword Planner gives a range of numbers for the Average Monthly Searches. When I did a search for Womens Watches, it returned the numbers as between 1K to 10K.

I mean, come on. Is it nearer to 1K or nearer to 10K? The difference is huge, and can affect how successful my online marketing campaign will be, right?

What is the Best Keyword Tool?

After years of research, I finally found the Best Keyword Tool. It gives you the exact number of Average Monthly Searches, and the exact number of Average Traffic.

It also advises you how many competitors are there for that keyword, and how many other websites are ranking for that keyword. The latter tells you what are the chances of your website or web page ranking on the 1st Page.

What is On Page SEO?

On Page SEO is Search Engine Optimization techniques done on your website. It includes tactics such as strategically placing keywords on the pages of your website. For example, on the site title, page title, within the content, image alternate text tag, etc.

There are, of course, more techniques than just the ones mentioned. Here, I present 7 Effective On Page Seo Techniques that can get your website, page or post on 1st page of Google and other search engines. They are described in the following.

The Importance of Keywords

How You Can Make Money from Internet

Keywords are critical to the success of your website and advertising campaigns. They are the words that people use to find products, services, brands and information. In short, they are the words people use to find your business, your website.

As a digital marketer, you will need to understand how important keywords are, and the significance of Keyword Research. To learn more about Keywords and Keyword Research, read this article about How To Find The Best Keywords For Your Website. It will help you with these 12 On Page SEO Techniques for 1st Page Rank.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #1 of 12 – Title Tag

The first of the On Page SEO technique I would like to share with you is the Title Tag. This is the title that you give for each page on your website. Take a look at the image below. The title tag is displayed in blue color on search engine results.

On Page SEO - Examples of Title Tags
On Page SEO – Examples of Title Tags

The title tag helps spiders or search bots to know what the main topic of a web page is all about. For example, from the image shown above, the title tag of Kohepets Singapore is – Online Pet Shop – Kohepets Singapore. This tells the search bots that the website is about online shopping for pet products by a brand named Kohepets Singapore.

One crucial point to note is that this is the text that most people will read on search engine results. Generally, it is the first thing searchers will see when they look at the list of search results.

Below are some tips for you. Take note on How to Write a Powerful and Effective Title Tag:

  1. Each page needs its own unique title tag. No duplicate titles on other pages.
  2. Ensure title is relevant to the content of the page
  3. Title Tag has a limit of 55 to 60 characters. Write wisely.
  4. Use local and national keywords
  5. Don’t use special characters like ($, %, @, etc)
  6. Don’t use call to action (call now, buy now, etc)

Effective On Page SEO Technique #2 of 12 – Meta Description

The meta description provides a brief description of what the website or web page is all about. On search results, they appear just below the title tags. See the areas indicated by red arrows in the image below.

On Page SEO - Meta Descriptions
On Page SEO – Meta Descriptions

By the way, many experts have said that meta descriptions play little or no role in ranking your website higher. But I do find they do play some part in ranking.

I mean, take a look at the image above. Notice that the keywords are in bold? I believe that is a hint from the search engine that text in the meta description is considered. At least for relevance to the search query.

Nevertheless, meta descriptions are still important in the sense that searchers read them. They are opportunities for you to convince searchers to click on your link.

* Digital Marketing Tip: Meta Descriptions are excellent
to have Call to Action

If you do not add Meta Description to your website or web page, Google and other search engines will take random text from your website, and place it there. You may not like that to happen because you may end up with text that you do not want people to see.

Here are some tips on How to Write a Powerful and Effective Meta Description:

  1.  Write compelling copy to increase number of people click through to your website
  2. Meta Description can have less than 160 characters. Write wisely.
  3. Try your best to make the meta description consistent with the title tag
  4. As mentioned above, you can include Call to Action
  5. You can ask questions to entice searchers to click on the link to your website
  6. No duplicate meta descriptions
  7.  Write naturally

Effective On Page SEO Technique #3 of 12 – Headings

Headings are great for breaking up the text and organizing your content into sections. This makes it easier for readers to consume the information. At the same time, it makes it easier for the search bots to understand what your website or web page is all about. Google and other search engines look at Headers to determine how relevant the page is to a user’s search query. As such, headers are one of the important On Page SEO factors that you must do.

As you write your content, organize it into sections. Then add headings for each section. The headers are usually a short summary or explanation of what the information within the section of content will be about.

Take a look at this article that you are reading. You will notice that for each of the On Page SEO Technique I am sharing, I have given a header before discussing about that sub topic. Another example is the header used in a travel blog (see image below):

On Page SEO - Example of a Header
On Page SEO – Example of a Header

You can create up to 6 levels of headers. They are called H1 tag, H2 tag, H3 tag, H4 tag, H5 tag and H6 tag. The ‘H’ stands for Header, of course.

H1 is for the main heading of your web page or post. It can also be the title of your article. Add the keyword that you are ranking for into this main header.

H2 to H6 are the subsequent sub headers. They are sequential in levels. What this means is that H2 is the sub header within H1. H3 is the sub header within H2. And so on. Here is a look at how the levels are done:

  • H1 tag for Header 1
    • H2 tag for Header 2
      • H3 tag for Header 3
        • H4 tag for Header 4
          • H5 tag for Header 5
            • H6 tag for Header 6

* Digital Marketing Tip: Add Keyword to H1 only. For H2 to H6, write naturally. Make sure headers are relevant to section content

* Additional Digital Marketing Tip: Most sites use up to H4. Rarely H5 and H6 are used.

Here are some tips on How to Write a Powerful and Effective Headers:

  1. Use headings that are relevant to content, i.e. to each section
  2. Include your main keywords in H1s and H2s
  3. For H3 to H6, write naturally. Just make sure the headers is relevant to the section content
  4. Make sure the headings are related to the primary keyword/header for that page
  5. Don’t use special characters like $, %, @, etc
  6. Don’t use same headings each time
  7. Do not use one word headers

For the above point 6, where I said not to use the same headings, this is a rule that sometimes can be bent. It all depends on what you are writing, and how you are presenting the information. Also, when the repeated words make sense and easier for the readers to understand the content, then why not?

A good example is this very article that I am writing. I wrestled with whether to write the headers as the number of the On Page SEO – e.g. #3 of 7 – Headers. Then I felt that it would be too short, and will not make sense to the reader. Plus, it does not align with the primary keyword and header.

So, I decided to repeat the text – Effective On Page SEO Technique – followed by the numbering and the actual On Page SEO technique – i.e. Effective On Page SEO Technique #3 of 7 – Headers.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #4 of 12 – Image Alt Text Tag

Today, when you do a search query, you will see images as part of the search results. Here is an example of how they will appear (see image below, red box):

On Page SEO - Images Appear On Search Results
On Page SEO – Images Appear On Search Results

As you can see, the images appear high on a Search Engine Results Page (SERP). As mentioned in the article – What is SEO and How Does It Work?, 91.5% of searchers will click on a link that is on the 1st Page SERP. Thus, this increases traffic to your website. This makes images very important for SEO.

Another reason why images are becoming critical for SEO is that more and more people are using image search. They prefer images rather than text. In January 2019, Google reported that 19% of search queries are images. I just checked today, 26 June 2019, the image search queries have increased to 23%.

Google reports a daily search of 3.5 billion per day. 23% of that amount is around 805,000,000 searches per day! Can you, as a digital marketer, afford to lose that amount of potential traffic?

What is the Image Alt Text Tag?

The Alternative Text Tag is the text that can be seen when the image is not displayed. The tag also can be used by visually impaired users who are using screen readers. They can read the alt tag to better understand what the image is all about.

On Page SEO - Alt Text Tag for Images
On Page SEO – Alt Text Tag for Images

The most important part is for the search bots to understand what an image is about. You see, search bots cannot view an image. So, while you and can view an image, and we can interpret that image, search bots cannot do so. An Alt Tag informs the search bot all about an image, and enables them to be able to index that image.

When an image is indexed, it has the potential to appear on the image search results or even on the usual search results page, as seen above. Do you see the importance and potential of an image for SEO now?

Besides the usefulness for SEO, images can improve your content. A picture paint a thousand words. These days, people do not like to read blocks of text. Images can help break up the content, and make it more easy to consume.

With images, people will enjoy reading your articles. And will spend more time on your website. Again, this is good for SEO. When people stay for a longer time on your web page (rather than bounce off quickly), search engines translate that to your web page having quality and valuable content that people like. This boost the SEO ranking factor for your website, and as a result boosts your website’s ranking.

Here are some tips on How to Write a Powerful and Effective Alternative Text Tags:

  1. Make sure you own the images before you add to your website – e.g. photos taken by your using your camera or your mobile phone
  2. Buy stock photos if you cannot afford to take photos by a professional
  3. Alternatively, you can use images that are copyright free
  4. Use good quality photos
  5. Be aware of image size
  6. Use keywords in your filename
  7. Save images as GIF, JPG, PNG, WebP or SVG
  8. Add Alt Text Tags to your images
  9. Use your keywords in your Alt Text Tags – just one or two. This is not really necessary, too.
  10. Be descriptive – e.g. shoes vs red shoes with strap and 6 inch heels. The latter is better for SEO.
  11. Don’t need to use dashes

Effective On Page SEO Technique #5 of 12 – Online Videos

I have said it before. And I will continue to say it. Video is the future.

These days, as mentioned above, people prefer to see images. Better still, present the information in a video, and they will enjoy watching it.

In the past, there are those who argue that videos take too long to download. The playback is slow. And many other arguments. Today, videos can be downloaded or streamed very quickly. And with 5G on the horizon, there will be no issue about speed.

For SEO, it is ideal to create the videos on YouTube. Then embed that video into your blog post or web article. This will improve the ranking of your website or web page. It can even reach the coveted 1st Page position.

Below is a screen shot of a hotel review that included an embedded YouTube video. If you like to see how the video is added and complemented to the post, Click on the Image Below.

On Page SEO - YouTube Video of Hotel Embeded in Post, To See How It Is Done - Click Above Image
On Page SEO – YouTube Video of Hotel Embeded in Post, To See How It Is Done – Click Above Image

Consider this – YouTube is owned by Google. As such, it has been observed that embedding a YouTube video that is relevant to a blog post or article has helped increase ranking.

I know of an Internet Marketer who experimented with embedding videos. After his blog post reached the 2nd page of SERP, he created and embedded a YouTube video to that same post. The next day, his web page’s ranking reached the 1st Page.

But it is all not so simple as just creating and embedding a YouTube video. You need to do SEO for the video too. I will share more about this in a future post. Meantime, do join my mailing list to make sure you receive updates.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #6 of 12 – Internal Linking

One of the powerful and effective On Page SEO technique is Internal Linking. This is achieved when you replace text on your posts with a link that directs visitors to a different page or post on your website.

Here is what it looks like. See the underlined text circled in red in the below image.

On Page SEO - Example of an Internal Link
On Page SEO – Example of an Internal Link

The words – What To See in Hong Kong – is linked to a page with that same title. It offers information about what sights to see in Hong Kong. So, when a reader is interested to find out more, they can click on the link and visit that page.

Internal links to a page are like votes. They tell search bots that the destination page has valuable and relevant information that readers will appreciate. This also makes it easier for the search engines to crawl your website as well as understand it.

Internal links also enhances user experience, and reduces bounce rates. By pointing to another page within your website that has more valuable and relevant information, you are helping your readers. It makes it easier for your visitors to explore your website. Also, as your readers continue to read more pages on your website, your bounce rates will be reduced.

Here are some tips on How to Do Powerful and Effective Internal Linking:

1. Use keywords to link

A lot of people write the words ‘Click here’, and then adds a link to these words. Just like now you have no idea what these words will take you to, it is the same for search engines. When search bots encounter these words, they too have no idea where the link for the words will go to.

It is better to write words that explain what the link will lead to. If it is about a specific topic, then write that specific topic. As shown in one of the images above, such an internal link is better. I attached that same image again for clarity.

On Page SEO - Example of an Internal Link
On Page SEO – Example of an Internal Link

As you can clearly see, the text tells a reader what topic the link will bring them to. So, when a reader is interested to find out more, they will click on that link.

2. Use links within paragraphs

In the same image above, you can see the hyperlink is done within a paragraph. This is ideal. It is natural. And I always advise people to write naturally.

Google and other search engines love it when we write naturally. As opposed to writing in such a way that is forced or just to please a search engine’s ranking algorithm.

3. Vary your keywords

There may be occasions when you would like to hyperlink to the same page more than once. This is not advisable. But I understand. I too have, at times, found opportunities to hyperlink to the same page on the same article.

When that happens, it is best to avoid using the same anchor text. This means using different words to link to that same page.

4. Don’t link to a page you are already on

This may sounds obvious but you will be surprised that many people do this.

Never link to the same article.

Remember – Internal Linking means linking to another page or post on your website.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #7 of 12 – XML Sitemap

How To Create A Website For Your Business - Site Architecture

A sitemap is the architecture of an entire web site. It tells Google and other search engines what pages and posts are in a website and how they are categorized.

With a sitemap, you need to create the XML sitemap. This can be easily done by an SEO plugin such as All in One SEO or Yoast. These plugins will create your XML sitemap automatically. You can then use the XML sitemap link and submit to Google Search.

Submission of XML sitemap to Google Search informs Google that your site exists, and makes it easier for Google to index your website and pages. This will help in indexing for your website. And as a result, helps in ranking of your website and web pages. The submission of XML sitemap should also be done for other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #8 of 12 – No Duplicate Content

Here is something important that you, as a digital marketer, must know. Google and all search engines dislike duplicate content.

So, make sure that your website does not have any. If you need to create similar content on another page or website, use 301 redirect. Do not copy and the same content on that other page or website.

Also, use canonical tag. The canonical tag informs search bots which is the original content. Not sure how to do canonical tags? Speak to your webmaster about this.

Have you ever surfed a website, and landed on a page with a message as shown below?

Frustrating, isn’t it? And it also contributes to bad user experience. So, no wonder search engines do not like them too.

So do yourself a favor. Check broken links on your website frequently. And if any are found, make sure you correct them.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #10 of 12 – SEO Friendly URL

Some websites have pages or posts where the URL is automatically generated. These usually create really bad URLs where it has no meaning for search bots. E.g. https://domain.com/cat/?cid=7078

It is better to create URLs that communicate better, that tells search bots what the web page is about. E.g. https://domain.com/whiskey/irish-whiskey/jameson

As you can see from above, the whiskey called Jameson is within the category of Irish Whiskey, which is within the main category of Whiskey. This is very good practice for URLs. It informs the search bots about the product name as well as what product category it is under.

Here are a couple of additional tips for SEO Friendly URL:

  1. Use your keywords in the URL
  2. Separate the words with dashes – e.g. you can see the above keyword – Irish Whiskey – is written as irish-whiskey

Effective On Page SEO Technique #11 of 12 – Site Loading Speed

With 5G on the horizons, this may not be so much a concern. But for now, search engines like Google love fast loading websites. So, the speed that your site downloads to a browser, whether on desktop or mobile device, is a concern.

Before you decide to do anything about your website speed, test it out with one of Google’s site speed test tool – Page Speed Insights.

This Google tool is really useful. After it analyzes your website, it will provide you with suggestions on how to make your web page faster.

Effective On Page SEO Technique #12 of 12 – Mobile First – Mobile-Friendly Site

More and more people are using mobile devices. They use it to search for information, products, services and brands. They also use it to communicate with their network of friends and family as well as to socialize.

It is then no wonder that Google announced that they will be going Mobile First. And in 2019, this year, they will use the mobile version of content for indexing and ranking. Google has also hinted that non mobile friendly websites will be penalized; that is will be ranked lower.

It is very important for your website to be mobile-friendly. Sometimes this is also called a responsive website.

The first thing you need to do is to choose a theme that is responsive for your website. Or if it is hard coded, then make sure your programmers make your website mobile friendly.

Need to know if your website is mobile friendly? Google has a Mobile Friendly Test page.

Just like the above Page Speed Insights, this tool will analyze your website. And if there are any areas where your website is not mobile friendly, it will provide you suggestions on how to improve it.

What Is SEO and How Does It Work?

What is SEO and How Does It Work?

What Is SEO and How Does It Work?

In my earlier post, I wrote about How to Learn Digital Marketing Online – The Ultimate Guide. It was an extensive article. And because it was extensive, I could not cover each sub topic in details. As such, in this post, and other future posts, I will share more details about each sub topic. Starting with What Is SEO and How Does It Work?

As mentioned before in the article above, I am sharing all this knowledge to help anyone interested to know more about digital marketing. That person can be someone who is seeking a career in digital marketing, already a marketer and wish to learn more about digital marketing, or even an entrepreneur who wishes to find out more about digital marketing.

Before we dive into SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization, let me share about what are search engines and how do they work?

What Are Search Engines?

Picture this. I am getting along the day as usual, doing my scheduled tasks. Then suddenly, I become aware of a need. It can be a product, service or information. So I whip out my smartphone, and I do a search on Google.

Sounds familiar? Have you done something similar? Maybe not on a phone but on a computer or tablet?

What are search engines?

Well, you have just experienced a search engine. It can be Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Baidu, or many others.

Today, many of us rely on these search engines to find lots of things. We use these search engines for research, reading product reviews, finding solutions, purchases, and many more uses.

And Google has the biggest number of people using it to do their searches. As you can see in the image below, currently, they have a whopping 93% share of the search engine market!

Search Engine Market Share
Search Engine Market Share: Google – 92.25% | Bing – 2.41% | Yahoo – 2.07% | Baidu – 1.01 % | Others – 1.11%  – statcounter GlobalStats

While the other search engines like Bing, Yahoo, Baidu and the rest seem to have a small percentage share of the search volume, do not ignore them.

According to Internet World Stats, as of March 2019, there are 4.3 billion people actively using the Internet. Think about it. For example Bing has 2.41% of the search engine market share, which is around 92 million people. That is still substantial amount of traffic to capture, right?

Plus, Bing and Yahoo share the same algorithm. This means that when you rank on 1st Page of Bing, you also rank 1st Page on Yahoo. And this translates to the combined traffic potential from both search engines.

How Do Search Engines Work?

Search engines exist to provide you, the person doing the search, the most accurate and relevant results. Also, results that provide quality information. But how do they work?

Well, first there are these things called spiders or search bots. They crawl the world wide web (hence, the term spider) in search of content.

When they identify content, for example your website, they find out what it is all about. Then they go back to the serach engine database and indexes this content.

This is similar to a librarian who receives a new book. The librarian then understands what the book is all about. The librarian then indexes the book, and stores it away in the library.

When someone does a search using a search engine, he or she would usually type in a word or a phrase. This is called keyword or keywords. I will talk about the importance of keywords in a future article.

The search engine takes the keywords and goes to the search engine database. Referring to the keywords, the program searches for quality content that is relevant. Based on search ranking factors, such as quality and relevance (there are plenty more factors), the program produces a list of search results.

This is what you see after you do a search on the search engine. The list is called the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). An SERP usually has only 10 listings with some advertisement listings.

When there are more than 10 listings for the search result, the rest will be listed on subsequent pages. And they will also be 10 search listings per page.

Why Should You Care?

In the above introduction paragraphs, I have mentioned that this article is for anyone interested to find out more about digital marketing. In this article, we are focusing on SEO. It is hoped that the knowledge shared here will help you learn more about SEO, and how to use it for your digital marketing work.

Now back to why you should care about how search engines work and about SEO?

Millions of companies are doing it. They are getting their business websites listed on SERPs. Many are even getting ranked on 1st Page of SERPs.

Some of these companies are your competitors. They are getting ranked. And they are getting traffic that generates revenue.

Here is a study by Chitika that shows how important it is to be on the 1st Page of SERPs.

Percentage of Google Traffic by Results Page - Chiitika. This shows how important it is to be on 1st Page of search results

As you can see from the above research, 91.5% of searchers will choose and click on a listing that is on the 1st Page of search results. This makes it very important for marketers to make sure that the business website is on the 1st Page and stays on the 1st Page.

When searchers click on a listing that is on the 1st Page, they visit the web page. As such, being on the 1st Page drives more traffic to a site. And when the searchers visit the site, it is an opportunity to convert them to customers.

SEO is a long term opportunity. More and more people are getting online. The mobile phone has made it much more easier to access the Internet, and find stuff. As such, more and more people are spending more time online and searching for what they need.

According to internetlivestats.com, Google gets over 3.5 billion searches PER DAY! That is traffic that has potential customers for you.

More Stats About SEO You Should Know

When your website is listed on 1st page of SERPs, your web traffic increases 9-fold. There is sales potential with increase of up to 42% in the 1st month. And 100% increase in sales in the 2nd month. (‘problem solved’, BtoB 92, no. 15, November 12, 2007, p21)

With such potential for sales and revenue, as a marketer, it is your job to see that your company’s website gets listed on search results. Preferably on the 1st Page of SERPs.

So, What’s Next?

Next, as a marketer, you need to understand about On Page SEO and Off Page SEO. I will be writing about these two important topics next. Stay tuned. Better still, sign up for my newsletter to get updates.
